Overview
This article outlines the power and radio settings on BlackBerry smartphones, specifically the Auto On/Off, Turn Wireless Off and Power Off features.
The Auto On/Off feature allows you to specify if you want the BlackBerry smartphone to power on and off automatically on weekdays and weekends. During the specified Auto On/Off times, LCD display are turned off. Only Calendar and Alarm notifications turn the BlackBerry smartphone on. The Auto On/Off feature turns off the message notification but leaves the radio on and acknowledges Alarm and Calendar notifications.
If you select Turn Wireless Off on the Home screen, the radio is off and no radio frequency (RF) is transmitted from the BlackBerry smartphone. This feature can be used while travelling on an airplane, while in a blasting area, hospital or other Radio Frequency sensitive locations. If you select Turn Wireless Off, no wireless communication takes place between the BlackBerry smartphone and the wireless network.
Note: RF transmissions from the BlackBerry smartphone are low and accepted under the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) part 15 requirements.
When you click Power Off icon on the BlackBerry smartphone Home screen, the BlackBerry smartphone turns off, including the radio.
